We Did It! Longbow Walks for Sheffield Children’s Hospital 💚

On Tuesday 2nd September, 25 amazing members of the Longbow Venues team laced up their boots and tackled a bespoke 30km charity walk across the stunning Peak District — all to raise vital funds for the incredible Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

💪 29 Kilometres. 25 Team Members. One Powerful Cause.

We’re proud to share that the walk is complete — and thanks to the overwhelming support from friends, family, colleagues, and our wider community, we’ve raised a phenomenal £6,000+ so far.

Led by the unstoppable Kate, Lizzy, and Mike from What’s Not To Hike, the route was designed to challenge us, celebrate Longbow’s venues, and highlight the beauty of the Peak District. Every step was taken in support of the world-class care Sheffield Children’s Hospital provides to families every day.

🥾 The Route: Peaks, Pubs & Purpose

We kicked off the day bright and early with bacon sandwiches (huge thanks to Charlotte and chef!) at The Peacock at Owler Bar, before heading off across the wild terrain of the Dark Peak. From Totley Moor to Longshaw Estate, we climbed through heather and fern-lined trails to reach the dramatic gritstone outcrops of Mother Cap and Over Owler Tor.

Fuelled by brownies and coffee at The George in Hathersage, we followed the River Derwent past Padley Chapel, then recharged with a scenic garden lunch at The Maynard in Grindleford.

The second half took us over Froggatt Bridge, through the historic village of Stoney Middleton, and into Coombs Dale – once home to the highwayman Black Harry! Finally, after a brief stint along the Monsal Trail, we arrived (with sore legs and big smiles) at The Ashford Arms in Ashford-in-the-Water, where a cold drink and well-earned medals awaited.

❤️ More Than a Walk

This was more than a physical challenge, it was a show of what we can achieve together. Every pound raised goes towards lifesaving equipment, pioneering research, and comforting family-friendly spaces at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

We want to thank every team member who took part and pledged to raise at least £100 — your dedication made this happen.

The Moments That Made It

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Longbow event without a few unforgettable moments:

👣 Jess (Weddings & Events Coordinator at The Maynard) clocked 48,000 steps — that’s what you get with little legs!

🚜 Josh (The Ashford) might run pubs, but he’s also a TikTok-famous farmer (who knew?!).

🩳 Chris (Maintenance) did the entire walk in jean shorts — let’s just say, never again.

⚽ Steve (Ops Director) went straight from walking to coaching his son’s football. Heroic or mad?

💧 Alice (Area Manager) couldn’t work out why her camel pack wasn’t working — she’d loaded it upside down.

🧭 Emma (Deputy Manager, The Ashford) kept asking why we weren’t taking the shortest route!

Other highlights:

🐾 Nel and Teddy, our two furry companions, joined us for part of the way.

🏡 We walked past the homes of Rob, Vic and Chris — none bailed!

🍬 Jelly babies, moams and squishes kept energy high.

🧜 Two chances for wild swimming — but no brave takers!

🔑 One forgotten car key = one rescue husband.

⛰️ 2,016ft of elevation and near-vertical paths.

⏱️ 6 hours and 30 minutes on our feet.

🕗 From 8am to 4:30pm — every step worth it.

🙌 Thank You for Walking With Us

Whether you walked, donated, clapped, or fed us cake — thank you. Your support has a real impact.

The walk may be over, but the difference we’re making continues. Our JustGiving page is still open if you’d like to contribute:

Until the next challenge,
