Longbow Acquires The Peacock at Owler Bar

The Peacock at Owler Bar to Reopen Before Christmas with a Stunning New Look by Longbow Venues

The Peacock at Owler Bar, a beloved 19th-century inn with sweeping views of the Peak District, is getting a fresh start this Christmas season. Award-winning Peak District hospitality company, Longbow Venues, are leading the charge in transforming this iconic spot, known for its character and scenic location, just a short drive from Sheffield.

Built in the early 1800s by the Duke of Rutland on the historic road to Chatsworth House and Bakewell, The Peacock is a Grade II listed building with solid oak floors, leaded windows, and beams that tell stories of centuries past. Now, Concorde BGW, the design team behind other Longbow Venues, is bringing The Peacock back to life with a £350,000 refurbishment, including a new outdoor seating area with breathtaking moorland views.

Like Longbow’s sister venues The Ashford Arms, The Maynard, and The George in Hathersage, the refurbished Peacock will honour its rich heritage, adding to its charm while introducing a refreshed interior.

A Menu to Remember

Adrian Gagea, Longbow’s group executive chef, trained under renowned chef, Raymond Blanc, will curate The Peacock’s menu, promising a selection of pub classics with a twist, inspired by world flavours and celebrated local Peak District seasonal produce. Similar to The Ashford Arms’ menu, diners can expect premium dishes crafted from ingredients sourced from local farms, heritage brewers, and artisan producers.

With everything made to order, The Peacock’s team is ready to accommodate gluten-free options, as well as vegetarian and vegan dishes. The pub will open daily for coffee, cakes, drinks, lunch, dinner, and more, making it the perfect spot for everything from a Sunday roast to an afternoon tea.

Rob Hattersley Shares His Vision for a Premium Pub Experience

Managing director of Longbow Venues, Rob Hattersley

Managing director of Longbow Venues, Rob Hattersley, said;

“The Peacock commands what must be the best pub views in the area, surrounded by the Peak District countryside,” says Rob. “Whether you’re walking, driving, or cycling, you see it and it’s almost like a mirage, set against the rugged landscape. You can imagine how travellers must have felt 200 years ago, when they spotted it after a long tiring journey on the old turnpike road.”

“We’re looking forward to bringing the same high-quality service; warm, welcoming, sympathetically designed interiors; and premium, local food to the Peacock, that our guests have come to expect from every Longbow venue,” Rob adds.

“Everything we have planned for The Peacock is about providing our guests with a premium pub experience. It’s about warmth, joy, cosiness, and seasonal dishes that feel special but aren’t at all fussy or overcomplicated. It’s about feeling welcomed and at home as soon as you step in the door. It’s everything that we would ever want in a pub ourselves, and we can’t wait to share it.”

Longbow Venues – Award-Winning Peak District Hospitality

Rob’s journey with Longbow Venues began just before the pandemic when he sold his house to fund his first venture, The Maynard. Despite facing challenges during the lockdowns, he’s since expanded Longbow Venues, with The Ashford Arms opening in March 2024 and The George in Hathersage winning multiple awards.

The Peacock announcement comes on the back of a slew of recent award wins for Longbow, including awards for Outstanding Growth and Excellence in Customer Service at the 2024 East Midlands Chamber Derbyshire Business Awards.

At the 2024 Westside & Southside Bar and Restaurant Awards, Longbow won Young Chef of the Year (Joe Barry from The George); Readers’ Choice Award – Restaurant of the Year (The Maynard); and Best Sunday Lunch (The Ashford Arms).

The Peacock’s Grand Opening to Be Revealed

With a refurbishment and relaunch set to take place before Christmas 2024, with a proposed reopening date of Wednesday, December 11, 2024. The Peacock at Owler Bar will open from 11 am to 11 pm every day, welcoming both locals and travellers to experience the new era of this historic inn.
