Roaring for Sheffield Children’s Hospital: Longbow Venues and the Pride of Yorkshire
150 lions. One incredible cause.
Pride of Yorkshire is a city-wide public art trail marking 150 years of Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
Following on from the beloved Bears of Sheffield and the Herd of Sheffield, this year’s trail sees 150 life-sized lion and lioness sculptures take over the streets, each one designed and painted by artists from the region and beyond. Joining them are 150 smaller cub sculptures, created by local schools and community groups from across South Yorkshire.
The whole campaign is aiming to raise £2.8 million, with funds going directly towards the transformation of the Emergency Department at Sheffield Children’s. The vision is a calmer, more child-friendly space that reduces fear and anxiety, improves patient flow and gives families a better experience at what is often an incredibly stressful time.
Our lion: King of the Peaks

Longbow Venues has sponsored one of those 150 lions. King of the Peaks was created by artist Ant Clifford, who took his inspiration from the moorlands and uplands on the South Yorkshire side of the Peak District.
Using thick acrylic applied with a palette knife, he’s captured the texture and colour of the landscape beautifully. Tumbling boulders, wild grass and stretches of heather rendered in rich, shifting tones.
You can find the lion outside Woodseats Medical Centre on Chesterfield Road, and it’s well worth a visit.

Exploring the trail
With lions placed across Sheffield and the wider region, the Pride of Yorkshire trail is a great excuse to get out and explore. It’s a brilliant family day out and a wonderful way to engage with local art while supporting a cause that matters. Find the full trail map and lion line-up at prideofyorkshire.co.uk.
Longbow’s charity walk
Sheffield Children’s Hospital is a cause close to our hearts and Pride of Yorkshire isn’t the only way we’re getting involved. Each year the Longbow team takes on a charity walk through the Peak District to raise funds for the hospital and last year’s effort was a real highlight.
This year we’re going bigger, with more walkers and more miles on the agenda. Details coming soon.
